I am 8 weeks according to last period, 28 day cycle! Had some brownish bloody tinged discharge so went to emerg, transvaginal ultrasound showed a baby and sac measuring 6 weeks with no heartbeat. My hgc levels were 14000 on Tuesday and 15560 on Wednesday so they did go up. I go back Friday for more bloodwork and being scheduled for another ...Normal. I'm still in the early stages, but at my clinic, they don't do heartbeat check until 7w4d or after because by then, the heartbeat should be there and audible. It can show up early, but by then, the doctor will have a definite answer as to what's going on with baby (without giving mom anxiety).

It's pretty common to have an early ultrasound where things don't measure quite right and there may or may not be a heartbeat.
