May 6, 2007 · So the front takes right at a quart. My D44 rear took right at 2 quarts, and since the D35 has a smaller pumpkin, then Jerry is right when he said the D35 takes just under 2 quarts. You should do fine buying 3 quarts instead of 4, unless you just want some extra lying around in case you have a leak in the future.

Always fill to the proper level regardless of capacity listed. I really can't help with questions about the M200, other than its a Dana 35. Knowing what I know about lubricants for industrial gear drives, I can only assume that the M200 sees higher loads than the M220, requiring a lubricant with a higher viscosity at operating temperature.

My HPD30 only took 1.5 Quarts before it spilled out of the fill hole. I have a UCF Cover. It seems low, but there are no strait answers on here. It has 4.88 gears.

In a hot place with no winter weather, you want a thicker oil, say a viscosity over 90. If a cold place then want a lighter oil below 90. If a lot of heavy and hot towing, then a heavier oil. The Dana 300 takes a GL5 rated gear oil, same as the diffs. No additives needed. The transmission however takes a GL4 rated gear oil or synchromesh fluid. A gl5 rated oil has too much sulfur in it which affects the synchromesh parts. Mike.The Ford Ranger 4x4 received a new SLA (Short arm Long Arm) suspension in 1998, and used that suspension until its production end in 2011. Unlike the reverse rotation Dana 35 used from 1990-1997, the Dana 35 SLA is a standard rotation axle. This means that the gears from a 1990-1997 Dana 35 will not work in a 1998-2011 Ford Ranger.
