Tower XP is split amount all towers on the map by money spent. So spend as much money on the tower as possible. Heroes do not count toward this so feel free to use whatever hero you want. Tower XP starts to drop off in freeplay. So I would limit yourself to round 100. Other than that you just have to grind.
