For the last three years I've used the spreadsheet to track A/W/R after folks applied. Now I feel like it takes me an hour (literally) to write just a single paragraph that's high in quality and content (say a paragraph in a writing sample or even personal statement). I suppose that's still good. If one spent 5 hours a day on research, one could knock out at least a page or two.

The only two problems are 1) They only do one a year; and 2) It depends on if the school's philosophy society next year will be active enough to put out another one. The first one they did was the year I was part of the phil. soc. executive, and we went as far as getting the journal an ISBN number, so you can search it on WorldCat and whatnot.

I agree that yes, a lower GPA will hurt your chances of admission, especially at the most competitive programs. (Although I doubt that a 3.7 is that low). It depends on the topic. IMO, writing the physical paragraph can easily be the the least time consuming part; often the thought behind the paragraph is what is time consuming. If it is something i think about often, I can write a page in less than an hour, of something I would consider quality.
