I'm new and currently trying to set up a paper trading setup as I'm reading and learning as I go. So in a lot of ways I've heard good arguments that Oanda is a good brokerage to start, especially for low cash volume ( eg ).

Oanda's spreads are HUGE. Oanda is considered by many on r/forex to be the best broker. Apart from all the pros, its spreads are extremely high relative to other legitimate brokers. I used Myfxbook to compare spreads. The brokers I compared are from this list. I used EUR/USD as the independent variable. I like OANDA, though I’m only still “practice” trading. For a while I used Forex.com - but I prefer using Tradingview (I hate MT4 sorry not sorry), and Forex.com wouldn’t supply volume information to TV. Oanda does. Also, Forex.com seems to have more restrictive limits than OANDA does. Inactivity fees. The main draw for Oanda is that they offer no minimum trade sizes. So you can start an account with $50 and literally trade $1 at a time. Or you can do like 1/5th of a microlot and only risk $0.50 on a trade. Their spreads are also quite good. Otherwise their trading platform is horrible.

From what I've heard IG is still relatively new to the American market, but they sound very promising with their low spreads and high amount of trust globally. I don't have a ton of experience with Oanda, but do hear mostly good things. I opened an IG US account when opened shop in the US, and have since moved my deposits over to them.
