Great resource. I have an '86 JD 318. It is the "old style" Onan. I changed out the choke cable the other evening and after finishing, tried to start it. The choke works fine, but it acted like there was no spark. I bought a spark tester, the kind that allows you to hook it up to the plug wire and ground the other end.My 318 was running fine until I shut it off the other day and then when I tried to start it again, no spark to plugs. What happened? I checked the coil and it seems to have good resistance. Are there points on this Onan "P" series or is it electronic? (1988, 318 model). Serial number of the tractor is C314L 19146LM. Took the points off and cleaned them. They were a little pitted so I filed them down to take the pitting out. Regapped them a little under .020". May 9, 2021 · When I saw the initial pics, I noticed the condenser & coil config were identical to mine in a 1986 318 w/B43G. The later pics confirmed yours as a 1983 318 B43G machine. So, I have a 1986 B43G configured the same (with the newer replacement coil and external condenser).
