Possibly a 3rd setting like "balanced" could be added to mimic the old soft so that folks can go back if they want. Ride comfort is very subjective so one person might appreciate an extra floaty and soft ride while another might not. The numbers lean heavily toward the "good" overall, so Rivian perhaps made the masses a little happier at the cost of making some enthusiasts less so.
