Yes, 80% parts are interchangeable with standard 1911 milspec parts. That is a HUGE benefit compared to other 1911-22's on the market, IMO. But the 1911-22 does have a fixed barrel via the slide stop, pin and allen screw. This is not a bad thing, just different from the barrel lug design on the milspec .45.

From all accounts the Ruger SR22 is a significantly better pistol, but they usually go for around $300 these days. Still, I would consider looking for a good used Ruger which would probably be within your price range, rather than buying a new Walther P22. So my feelings regarding the Walther P22 are rather mixed.
