The 500/590 is a little more rigid. The 590 is anodized finish and a heavier duty receiver. Depends what features you like though. Posted May 28, 2013. I like the Pardner better. It is an 870 clone with a better heavier receiver and beefier parts. The Maverick's are fine guns, but are a cheaper versions of the budget 500. They also loose the benefit of the Mossberg over the 870's in that they use a cross bolt safety instead of the tang safety.

The listed MSRP of a mossberg is always about 150 bucks more than they seem to go for. The main differences between the Maverick 88 and Mossberg 500 are the trigger group and safety. Mossberg 500 has a little bit better design, and is ambidextrous.
