I loosened the bottom (what I was told was the LOCK nut), then brought down the top cap (adjusting) nut to specification, then brought the bottom nut up tight to the top one.

I think you can get a brand new 3.3 for under $4000. I am in the middle of a Mercedes 5cyl turbo diesel swap. I still have a long way to go, but I'm getting there! I welded in my own custom engine mounts. The jeep has a 2" suspension lift on 33's.As far as I know, I need to do these things: -Obtain OM617 motor mounts. -Obtain 240D automatic cross mount for transmission. -Find some way to block the SLS pump (still dont know how to do this) -Shorten the driveline of the 240D 4 inches. -Check to see if the flywheel in the OM616 is neutrally balanced.Just go 22re or 3rzfe and turbo it, they can make a-lot more power than either of the v6’s with better mpg. The mbz om617.950 motor is already a huge improvement, by huge i mean costs less than rebuilding the 230, add to that todays fuels and oils with all the additives needed that i cant buy in California, diesel just seems best option and om617 is very similar in size, weight and power output plus fuel is cheapest with 2x better mpg.

I've had two motors in this truck, the first gave me about 12 l/100km... (19mpg?) the new motor is burning about 23 l/100km... (about 10mpg).There are a lot of people doing this swap in trucks that are destined to stay on the road and most of those swaps were done to achieve better mpg. An increase in mpg is a plus but I am more interested in the torque that a diesel can supply at lower revolutions.

It is a 1971 FJ55 I will be converting it to a Mercedes OM617 5cyl turbo diesel, Sm420, Stock landcruiser transfer case, Maybe an Orion later depending on money 5:13s, it will have some exo tubing rock guards and a top rack.So after some minor research it appears the OM617 produces at least 40 more ft/lbs of torque and at least 30 more horse power than the Jeep 2.5l. It also produces this torque at a much lower rpm than the 2.5. I made a custom adapter plate to mate the OM617 to the r150f Toyota transmission. I re drilled the Toyota flywheel to fit the Mercedes crankshaft as well as machined a custom pilot bearing adapter.
