Let me supply my sources for judging that two towns were sundown and explain why I assess them credible. Doing so will help you decide if you should trust my judgment. The first is a piece of oral history that I trusted. The second is a piece of written history — well, email — that I almost credit, pending additional confirmation.
Sundown towns date, by and large, to 1890-1940, an era historians call the "nadir of race relations," when lynching peaked and Jim Crow practices tightened throughout most of the nation. Fillmore CA is on this list. Fillmore is 90% Hispanic and an extremely welcoming community. It's a super small town. There needs to be a real list of actual sundown towns that are current.
